Angola Cables gains position as the most interconnected operator in the CPLP.

The distinction was awarded by independent North American entities that monitor global traffic and Internet interconnections, which highlights the strategic importance of Angola Cables' infrastructure. Currently, more than 70% of Internet traffic in Africa passes through a point in this company's network.

Angola Cables, an Angolan telecommunications multinational, has reached another significant milestone by being classified as the 21st largest global Internet interconnection operator by the prestigious Center for Applied Internet Data Analysis (CAIDA), a world reference in the sector, according to a note from the entity sent to the Kieto Economia editorial team.

According to the distinction, the company is also positioned as the most interconnected operator among the countries of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), reaffirming its commitment to making Angola a digital hub.

“This international recognition, granted by independent North American entities that monitor global traffic and Internet interconnections, highlights the strategic importance of Angola Cables’ infrastructure. Currently, more than 70% of Internet traffic in Africa passes through a point on its network, which is responsible for 1% of global Internet traffic, reinforcing its fundamental role in directly connecting five (5) regions – Africa, Europe, Latin America, the United States of America and Asia”, reads the note.

With a robust infrastructure, which already processes more than 18,488 Tbps, Angola Cables offers high-performance connectivity solutions, enabling efficient delivery of global content at a local level, offering low latency, high resilience and security.

The SACS submarine cable, which connects Angola directly to Brazil, is a key part of this network, as it allows technology giants such as Amazon, Google and Facebook to establish fast and direct connections between Africa and the Americas.

“This recognition not only reaffirms the technical competence and capacity for innovation, but also reflects the strategic impact of Angola Cables’ investments in telecommunications infrastructure and in the expansion of digital connectivity between Portuguese-speaking countries and other international markets,” the document states. This achievement is also the result of a solid peering policy, advanced BGP routing strategies and a highly connected IP network. These initiatives allow for optimized latency, greater visibility for customers’ prefixes/ASNs and high availability in global routing.
