Statistical data from the Angolan government reveal a worrying disparity, where foreign companies benefit from 98% of hiring, leaving only 2% for national companies in a total annual hiring of USD 18.2 billion.

According to a press release to which KIETO Economia had access, the Association of Autochthonous Companies for the Petroleum Industry of Angola (ASSEA), headed by the new president, appointed on the 7th of this month, Berta Rodrigues Issa, aims for growth of the sector.

The president intends to strengthen ASSEA's position as a catalyst for the growth of a more competitive oil sector, focusing on the effective implementation of local content legislation (DP 271/20) and increasing the participation of national companies in the oil sector. % to 20%, reducing the current financial exodus.

Berta Issa, considers that the disparity in the statistical framework is imperative and there is a need to overcome persistent obstacles, such as the non-implementation of the Local Content measurement methodology, the absence of instructions in the sector to allow payments in kwanza and foreign currency, as well as unfavorable payment terms.

As part of her ambitions, the president intends to promote diversity, inclusion and sustainability in the energy sector, promoting greater inclusion of companies led by women and encouraging professional internships for more than 150 young people by the end of 2024.

"Of this 2%, there are no significant records of Angolan companies led by women. This discrepancy not only represents an economic injustice, but also constitutes an obstacle to the country's sustainable growth", the note reads.

Therefore, ASSEA member companies must serve as a beacon of hope in creating jobs for young professionals looking for their first job, thus ensuring a prosperous and sustainable future for all.

ASSEA is a reflection platform for entrepreneurs, professionals and national experts in the sector, it was founded in 2019, and has more than 80 associated companies.

The Association's primary objective is to promote, foster and develop the growth of the Gross National Product (GDP) through the implementation of Local Content legislation and the active engagement of national companies in the oil sector as the main lever for the diversification of the Angolan economy and strengthening the national business community.
