New 1,000 and 2,000 kwanza notes “without Massano’s signature” already in circulation.

The National Bank of Angola (BNA), within the scope of its functions, put into circulation, this Friday, new notes in denominations of 1,000 and 2,000 Kwanzas, signed by Manuel António Tiago Dias, current governor of the central bank.

In a note, available on the regulator's website, the bank states that the new notes have the same characteristics and security elements as the current ones. However, what differentiates them is simply “the signature and date of issue”.

“The change in some characteristics is visible to the public, namely the signature of the Governor of the National Bank of Angola, Manuel António Tiago Dias and the date of issue, November 2023, reads the statement.

The outgoing governor of the central bank, José de Lima Massano, officially launched the “new kwanza family” of the 2020 series. The new notes come into circulation on July 30, 2020, and have denominations of 200, 500, 1,000, 2,000 and 5,000 kwanzas.
