João Lourenço releases another 135 million USD to 'clear' constraints along the line that connects Luanda to the new International Airport.
The President of Angola, after traveling a length of 45 kilometers by train, on the section that connects the country's capital to one of the neighboring provinces, decreed an order for emergency contracting of 135 million USD for the requalification of the access road, all of this, for he didn’t “like” the condition of the road.
The Executive signed a Presidential order, on the 5th of this month, of 135 million US dollars, allocated for “emergency works” the rehabilitation of the Luanda Railway railway.
In the Official Gazette published this Monday, President João Lourenço authorizes the expenditure of the amount mentioned above on emergency works, projects and inspection of the contract that aims to resolve the constraints noted by the PR and his team during the train journey he made, from Bungo station to António Agostinho Neto International Airport, located in the municipality of Icolo e Bengo.
In the first phase, a global amount of 125.4 billion dollars was spent for the emergency stage, 5 billion for the contract for project development, coordination and management of the project, and finally 4.2 billion for the supervision of the works .
João Lourenço highlights that “the countless safety constraints of railway operation persist, which lead to human losses on a daily basis”. The basis of these constraints and loss of human capital are situations caused by citizens, such as the theft and vandalization of rolling stock and railway lines, solid waste deposits, street vending and the reduction in the normal speed of trains.
However, “it is necessary to reverse the situation” declared the PR. For this reason, “I authorize the expense and formalization for the opening of the emergency contraction procedure,” he said. The contracting focuses on material criteria for the conclusion of a contract for the segregation of the Luanda Railway.
