Amazon Web Services (AWS) will invest US$1.7 billion (approximately 930 million kwanza) in Africa to promote the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the continent in general, particularly in the Sub-Saharan Africa region, said AWS's manager for South Africa, Chris Erasmus.
The e-commerce platform is committed to expanding its Cloud and Artificial Intelligence services in the region, and will have an additional budget of around US$1.7 billion, expected to be applied by 2029.
According to Chris Erasmus, the company has plans to promote the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the region, through some of its generative AI capabilities, using Amazon Bedrock, a service that provides AI business models through a single application programming interface.
In Sub-Saharan Africa, he highlights, AWS has grown to reach tens of thousands of customers and more than 6,000 partners, with an investment that impacts the region's digital economy.
“Today we have thousands of customers in the region and we see it as a strategic growth area for us,” he highlighted.
On the 30th of last month, Amazon Web Services celebrated its 20 years of presence in Africa, offering its cloud computing services.
